Working in Makati surely has many benefits and perks. Makati is the center for business and commerce in the Philippines, and living in a Makati condo means that you are in a city that is rich in culture and history.
Makati is known both locally and internationally as the financial capital of the Philippines. Many workers and employers live near their offices in the city to take advantage of its prime location. One additional advantage to living and working in this city is that it is also historically and culturally significant. Many events have happened here that changed the historical and social landscape of the country.
The city was founded by the Spaniard Miguel Lopez de Legazpi in 1571. It was then a swampland, and he initially dismissed it as a worthless piece of land. During the 50s, the city was officially named the financial center of the country. One-story shopping arcades that housed hair salons, book shops, and stores were leveled and in their place commercial office space buildings and fast-food restaurants were built. In 1975 Presidential Decree number 824 separated Makati from the province of Rizal, and the city became a part of the greater Metro Manila area.
In the 1980s, the city was the venue for one of the most powerful and moving displays of democracy: the peaceful People Power Revolution of 1986. People from all over the country, most especially employees living in a Makati condo, converged on the city to protest the murder of Ninoy Aquino. This resulted in the removal of Ferdinand Marcos from power and the rise of Ninoy Aquino’s wife Corazon ot the presidency. She was the first woman to become president of the Philippines.
In 1995, Makati was officially made a city by virtue of Republic Act 7854. This was another significant time in the city’s history. Under the leadership of Mayor Jejomar Binay, Makati became the modern city we see now. Much of the city’s improved infrastructure—Makati condo buildings, shopping malls, and business offices—was developed in this decade. In a plebiscite to ratify the charter of the new city of Makati, over 91 percent were in favor of cityhood.
People who live in a Makati condo are in a city that is rich in tradition and heritage. The city has a revered place in the country’s history, and will remain significant for many years to come.
